Residence

The residence located at 329 Waverly Street, Thunder Bay was purchased in 2008 and underwent extensive renovations to meet fire and safety and the licensing requirements of the Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services.  Penasi Group Home programming also includes land based and recreational activities at the Penasi site on Fort William First Nation and a camp on Graham Lake.

Penasi Group Home is licensed by the Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services and undergoes an annual licensing inspection.  The per diem rate is established in negotiation with MCCFS and is re-evaluated annually.  Per diem costs include staff salaries, land based programming, traditional and cultural therapeutic practises and recreational programming costs.

Penasi Group Home specializes in programming for youth who are struggling with attachment disorder due to lack of a parental or family relationship or youth who have experienced multiple foster homes.  In addition to a history of multiple placements, residents will exhibit or be affected by, one of rmore of the following concerns:

  • history of family neglect or abandonment
  • family history of substance abuse
  • family history of biolence
  • personal history of verbal, physical aggression or acting out
  • history of anti-social behaviour
  • inability to function in the home, community and/or school
  • history of fire setting
